Relationships with Search Engines

Search Engines are often the most discussed areas within technology news, with Social Media following closely behind. Introduced in the late 90’s, the developments of Search Engines have caused controversy with many companies trying to beat the system and practice ‘black hat’ techniques.

Relationships with Search Engines, SEO firms, businesses and even the general public have created various headlines over recent years, many concerning the search results and rankings of corporate businesses.

Since Google’s launch in 1998, there have been other variations to follow in its footsteps including Yahoo!, Ask Jeeves and more recent additions, but with none competing with this most trusted online research source.

In May 2009, the launch of Bing occurred spurring a debate of the fate of Google with the introduction of Microsoft’s new search engine. This was short lived, Google have since introduced various extras including Google Buzz, and of course, the Google sponsored mobile phone.

Search Engines have often been associated with sponsorship as well as providing guest speakers to appear at conferences and chats. Google is a prime example of a Search Engine that is often involved at talks that are watched worldwide by avid Search Engine Optimisers who want to be the first to practice new tips and tricks that are revealed.

Of course, the worldwide use of Search Engines has caused media attention within other countries, most recently with Google and China. Not as widely used as the other search engine Baidu, Google is still widely used for SEO and this shake up caused issues to be raised about how companies would continue over there if Google were to disappear.

As long as there are websites being made and people turning to the internet for research, the relationships between Search Engines and internet users will continue, it’s just a case of where it’s headed next.
