Organic vs PPC

Both Pay per Click (PPC) and Organic Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) campaigns are provided by various SEO firms globally. They both have advantages and pricing differs depending on the campaign due to the work and commitment or competitiveness of chosen keywords.

When Google began in 1998, all of its searches were what we now refer to as ‘organic.’ It was only when websites found they couldn’t easily rank at the top positions that Google launched ‘Adwords’, a DIY advertising strategy whereby websites appear above the organic search due to an agreed cost.

Both campaigns have various benefits and are noticeable by Search engine users. However, for certain key phrases an Organic campaign just isn’t feasible due to the competitiveness of chosen keywords, or with big brands and corporations already upholding the top positions.

Organic SEO comprises of different methods being undertaken for a website to work its way up the search engine to the get to the highest position. The techniques include the distribution both on and off a website, for the specific key phrases that a website wants to appear for, and in many cases, there are many.

Because of the amount of hard work it can take depending on the key phrase, Organic SEO can be a time consuming process and often take a team of SEO Consultants to get a website ranking highly.

Pay Per Click is perceived as an easier solution to be at the top, but is often not seen as ideal way to market online. It is based on a budget, with a charge per click being incurred to determine how long a site remains within the sponsored links.

An example would be; a company has a budget of £10 and agreed a cost of £1 per click will remain there for 10 people to click on their link. When this budget is up, they will disappear off that listing and will not appear organically.

The cost difference of these campaigns can differ immensely and depending on the budget of an individual and the charges incurred by an SEO firm, many optimisers advise that where possible Organic campaigns are the better option.
