I wrote a post a while ago on my trip to Google HQ and while I was there I attended a talk about the future of Adwords and within this presentation, the main areas highlighted by the Google team as the next major innovations of the Adwords platform were media and video ads.
Well good news, Google has now launched Adwords for video in beta which is available to companies in the USA, Canada, UK and Germany at present.
This new form of video management is launched in conjunction with YouTube which is the #2 search engine behind Google, the 3rd largest site in the world, experiences 3 billion video views a day and 89% of the online population have used it at some point. With credentials like that it’s difficult to argue that this new system for easily managing costs and targeting isn’t going to be appealing to the masses.
Google claim it’s the best way to tell your business story in an engaging way and that setting up Adwords for video is quicker than setting up a traditional Adwords account. This is emphasised by the fact that the set up for video is only 2 pages compared to the 30 pages for existing Adwords methods.
The overwhelming premise of Adwords for video is that Google have made video ad management easy and affordable. Unlike some other video management platforms which charge on impressions, Adwords for video will charge on views. This is a smart move as the feature most coveted by video advertisers is viewers actually watching the video. This also stands by the theme that has made Adwords so successful over the years of paying for results not possibilities.
Google claim another advantage of the Adwords for video system is the ability to target adverts by a variety of methods including keywords, topics, contextual themes, placements and interests. The new system also offers the ability to display your adverts in 4 formats which are known as TrueView and allow you decide between in-stream, in-display, in-search and in-slate methods. With this aspect of Adwords offering so much flexibility, I can see this new feature being a big success.
The problem at the moment is that this feature is only available to a select group of Adwords certified beta testers so as a regular user you may have to wait a little while longer to begin using it. That in itself is perhaps not all bad though as it will give you a chance to create, record and edit the video you would want to show if you haven’t already got one!
