‘Tis The Season To Be… Social?’

Is Social media a new way of online marketing? I think so. This is why I believe we should be encouraging companies to jump on the band wagon and start building a good social media campaign. I have seen a few companies leap into the exciting world of social media and they have successfully grown from strength to strength.

All you need is a healthy imagination, bags of creativity and a little witty tweet and blogs can go global.

So what is the secret I hear you ask?

I believe the key is in AIDA – Attention, Interest, Desire and Action. This is a technique which is used in sales and also a great technique when designing a website.

People see a homepage on a website the same as a shop window, you only have 3 seconds to catch your customer’s attention. If the shop draws your attention you are more likely to enter. This can be the same for the homepage of a website and now even a tweet on twitter.

So where to start?

Firstly you need to grab your reader’s attention and the good news is that this can be done easily, either by a catchy title, a captivating question or maybe even a special offer.

Now you’ve grabbed their interest you now have to gain and maintain their interest. After all, there is no point writing the catchiest title if the content underneath is just jibber-jabber. Make sure your content is king by making sure it’s relevant and more importantly, written for the consumer.

Thirdly, it’s all about desire so bare with me this could take a while. A catchy title grabs attention, while high quality and useful content keeps their interest. The reader is now engaged in the content which talks about the product/ service and this is what creates the desire to go on further.

Finally ACTION; you need to direct the reader where to go. Not many humans can read minds, so don’t just assume people will re-tweet a great piece of work or click through to your website. Make it clear and ask them, and you’ll soon be watching the social media broom sweep you off your feet.
