SEO Tips: How To Write Promotional Content Without Overselling
How certain SEO techniques mean you can’t always write to sell
Due to the different processes that make up an SEO campaign, the techniques that help a website reach top rankings need to be used with common sense in mind. By overselling a product through promotional content, a campaign can be affected resulting in loss of visits to a site and phrases being penalised by search engines.
In previous blog posts we have discussed the importance of articles and Press Releases as a means to get a company exposure. However, both require very different techniques and depending on where you wish to promote your copy, many distribution sites have strict guidelines as to what they accept.
Due to many people abusing article sites by submitting obvious promotional advertisements and key word stuffing, it has meant reputable article sites have had to monitor what is submitted and only accept content that informs a reader with genuine information.
So, with the opportunity for backward links and increasing a company’s online exposure, how does one write promotional copy without overselling?
It may seem like a difficult task, but as long as what you write is specific to the company you want to promote, it will become easier the more articles that are written. It is advisable to speak to a specialist at the company as they are likely to provide information for you that will enhance your understanding of their business, making your copy more believable.
Next, find unique services or products that your client supplies compared to others in their industry as this will help to make your article stand out against others within a category. Discuss how choosing a company that harbours these elements can benefit consumers long term rather than discussing the products individually.
Focus on your title when developing your article. Writing titles that catch a reader’s attention are futile if the points are not developed within the body of the article. Answer any questions, or expand on any services that have been mentioned within the title as your articles will have more authority and your name will become reputable by both distribution sites and readers alike.
Of course, although the article body may not explicitly allow self promotion, make sure that you mention the company you are writing for (with a link if possible) within the resource box that is provided by many article distribution sites. These are likely to be the areas which allow links and may also be highlighted as ‘ Author Resource’ allowing the author of the article to expand on their own personal information.
Article writing and distribution is a process that, if continuous, can enhance an SEO campaign and naturally help listings. Although we know that copy on websites and adding via RSS feeds is crucial to helping listings, external content is just as important for link building and attracting target audiences increasing an internet marketing strategy without being blatant advertisements.
