SEO Techniques; Marketing Your Business Using Twitter

Using Resources On And Off Twitter As Part Of An SEO Campaign

SEO is no longer simply about link building and directory submissions; there are now a whole host of techniques used by SEO consultants that aim to place websites in the top spots of the major search engines. Such techniques include articles, press releases and most recently, social media.

There is now a strong interest in social media and what using sites such as, Twitter and Facebook can offer as part of an SEO campaign. Whilst using social sites may not directly affect the position of a website in Google, it can be used as a key online marketing tool.

Twitter is an ever-adapting platform, yet one of the most important developments in recent months has been the ‘Lists’ function. Twitter users can categorise others, placing them in to lists that they have made. These lists could be related to location, industry, likes, dislikes or anything else for that matter.

The benefit of the list function is that any Twitter user can view the list and instantly access others of interest to them or their business.

It is not just the Twitter website that can be used by SEO consultants to market a business or website, there is also a range of external resources that can be integrated as part of a marketing campaign.

Two of the most popular websites used by Search Engine Optimisers are, We Follow and Listorious. Here consultants or even business owners themselves can categories their Twitter profile so that it is searchable by potential clients or others in the industry, or they can upload their lists so that they can be accessed by other users.

We Follow:

We Follow is a popular Twitter directory that can be used to search for Twitter profiles based upon a searchable term. For example, if a business was looking to follow others in the SEO industry they would simply type ‘SEO’ in to the search box and a list of users that have tagged themselves as this term are displayed.

The followers can then be split further, as they can be viewed in a list form by ‘Most Influential’ or ‘Most Followers’.  Clicking on the listing, information including the last post written, number of followers, number of following, number of updates and other tags can be viewed before making the decision whether to click ‘follow this user’.

Twitter users can list themselves in the We Follow Directory by specifying their location and interests. When choosing categories, they can view the number of profiles listed in each before making a decision. From here a multitude of businesses and individuals can access the profile quickly and easily, increasing the opportunity for their profile to be ‘followed’.

Listorious:

Listorious is another external directory, but instead of listing individual profiles, users can add the lists that they created within Twitter for others to search.

In much the same way as We Follow other users can then visit the website, search for a topic of interest such as, ‘SEO’ and access hundreds or even thousands of profiles. Users can then either visit the Twitter profile or their website, dependent upon what is most useful for their needs.

They also have a ‘Top Lists’ function that details the most comprehensive lists on Twitter. Just some of the lists currently on the website include, ‘Social Media,’ ‘Tech News People’ and ‘Creative’s To Watch’.

So, what is the main point of this? Well the simple answer is that business owners can choose who accesses their profile and market themselves in a way that is most fitting for their company.

SEO no longer has to be about searching for the best links, it is fast becoming an extremely social activity. Twitter is no longer simply the domain of teenagers; if used correctly, SEO consultants can make use of the functionality to effectively market a range of businesses and network with influential companies and consumers in almost any industry.
