SEO Spring Clean
Despite outside appearances spring is upon us and what better time to refresh SEO campaigns with a spring clean! With this is mind I propose a mini checklist to run through to ensure best performance and the continued growth of a campaign.
Rather than changing or adding to a campaign this should be considered a thorough check of optimisation both on and offsite. The target should be to bring a site up to new standards and to suit Google algorithm updates that may have been made over the winter months.
Things to check for!
1. Seasonal keywords!
Do your clients have any keywords that drive more traffic in spring and,
if so, are these ranking well to ensure good visibility and conversion in the coming months?
This may also be a good time to plant the seeds for summer-performing keywords such as air conditioning, construction or summer clothing!
2. Get those dusty old sites sparkling
Any sites with dated optimisation should be made to sparkle, updating the techniques used to optimise keywords onsite. Grab a feather duster to clean up meta descriptions, page titles and headings and vacuum up any strong tags or excessive internal linking.
3. Shake out the cobwebs but remember we want the spiders!
Take a look at your sites robot.txt and make sure your site is searchable. Login to webmaster tools and make sure there are no crawl errors to prevent spiders from accessing and indexing your site.
4. Mop up messy footprints to your site!
Assess your backlink profile, ensuring that it has varied anchor text and that backlinks are pointing to relevant pages on your site. Check that redirects are setup where necessary and that good links to your site haven’t been orphaned!
Carry out this simple checklist and your campaign will be flowering before your eyes!
