3 things you need to know when learning SEO
Being new to the SEO world it has become apparent that there are a few “need to knows” of SEO. In the ever changing world of SEO it’s hard to find out where to start. Well here you go…
1. The key to your success is in the words;
Appropriate keywords are a must! If you have a client that’s a handbag supplier but you optimise for Dust bin bags then the traffic isn’t going to reflect well on this. It will have a huge negative back up effect on drop off rates, bounce rates and page views if you don’t get this right. Essentially your keywords need to be either a service or product that you can offer to all clients. Once you have chosen the correct keywords for the campaign you need to find out how much search volume that word gets. You can rank position one for every word under the sun but without the traffic there is no point.
2. Rankings rely on research;
To know where to take your campaign, you need to know your market. Certain markets will have major floors that can be used positively. A lot of markets will have seasonal trends (who wants to buy hot pants when it’s snowing ay?) which you will need to be aware of. You need to be aware of any possible dips or highs to take advantage or brace for. To know your market is to know where you can afford to play it safe or take the risks.
3. Competition is key;
Now it no un-known fact that competitor research is always a handy tool to have in the bag, but it needs to be bigger, better and more. You need to know what who they compete with and what they sell and buy most of. This then gives you the best chance to know which way you should steer your campaign. Even if you set your sights on an obscene objective at least you are moving forward. My motto in life is if you’re not moving forward you’re going backwards and I think this applies to SEO. This may be an aggressive approach, but you don’t get anywhere by lying down do you?
After this you’re on your own folks…..
