Top 5 SEO Myths – SEO Video Blog
This week we are looking at our top 5 SEO myths, after being recently inspired by an old search engine land post from 2010. We reviewed the list, picked our favorites and added a couple of gems we have come across too.
So wasting no time, firstly ‘Once I rank i’ll be there for ever!’ – WRONG!
Unlike a development project that so many designers and IT consultants are used too, SEO isn’t about completing an one off inspection of the site, building a few links and leaving it there to rule the SERP results for all eternity.
It is of course an ever evolving industry with new challenges each time you ‘google’ your keyword. Constant algorithmic updates mean new practices, which require you to quickly adapt and research to stay ahead of your competition.
2.) SEO is a dark art – SEO can be a purely ethical practice and completely transparent if completed by a decent company (Like Creare right- Right!). There is no reason why companies cannot help with their own SEO, whether is providing link building opportunities through associates and partners or creating engaging content on their blog.
Getting an SEO strategy together that your client understands and believes in, can be an excellent method to achieve better rankings more quickly.
3.) Our firm is endorsed by Google – Errrr No!
To be fair the last year this has died off a little, but 2010 /11 was especially bad for competitors contacting our clients suggesting that Google have a special relationship with them and they can achieve extra special rankings because of this.
Simply not true, luckily even clients that aren’t SEO or internet savvy has started to see through these ludicrous statements.
4.) Your Page Rank is directly related to your search position -
Well… this isn’t strictly wrong as a decent Page Rank usually does illustrate link authority, however lower PR sites often out rank high PR sites due to many factors.
This could by the type of links, link partners, anchor text focus, onsite content or any other of the thousands of SEO factors which help sites position.
5.) And finally Keyword spamming helps you rank for that keyword -
Over the past 6 months we have done a lot of research into the effect of updating content and latent semantic indexing based on the major Panda algorithm update last year.
We have also re-looked at keyword density, personally we feel its important to have a good balance of industry related terms through out your site and content. But not good practice to cram your site with a high density of one target keyword.
We hope you have found some of the points mentioned useful, if you have any other SEO myths please as always add them to the supporting blog post.
Thanks for watching.
