Social Media Results Conference – Part Deux
Hello and welcome to this week’s SEO video. Last week Nick and I attended The Social Media Results Conference down in London and this video is part 2 of a 2 part special detailing what we felt were the most important takeaways.
Last week we discussed the key speakers and the main themes from the morning session. There were some great speakers in the morning session, from brands such Shop Direct Group, Asda, PayPal and more. If you missed last week’s video make sure you check it out.
However, luckily for us, the afternoon session was just as fruitful. The speakers and themes did range slightly from the morning session, which was all about producing engaging content, and was broader in the topics discussed.
One of our favourite speakers was Ross Adams from Spotify. He is responsible at Spotify for identifying potential advertising opportunities, and talked to us about the power of music in social media.
It’s an element that is yet really unused in brand social media campaigns, however with the introduction of business profiles on Spotify, companies now have a platform to share music with their followers. They’re also going to release an API, so the possibilities for music sharing could become very interesting!
Harry Davies from Google also gave a great speech about Google Plus – a still as yet underused social platform for businesses. He stressed the impact recommendations from friends and family can have as a buying motive, and Google Plus helps to identify this.
Also, from a search point of view, the ability to manipulate results through personalisation is something that is going to become huge in SEO. So make sure you don’t get left behind.
Kate Brennan from the British Heart Foundation gave us her best tips and tricks for blogger outreach – something that can be tricky at the best of times! She told us to think outside the box when approaching potential bloggers, try to connect with them on their wavelength and you’ll have greater success. And most importantly, use their name when contacting them!
There were many other great speakers from the afternoon, and we definitely learnt lots from our visit that we can use for our own social media campaigns.
The range of speakers was great, however in the future we’d like to see some speakers and perhaps a focus on the social media from the point of view of an agency. It would also be great to hear from someone who used social media to create a brand, rather than just incorporate it into their existing marketing strategy.
That’s all folks, hope you enjoyed this weeks video!
