Facebook Search Engine On The Cards – SEO Video
Hi and welcome to this weeks SEO video, Today I’m joined by Rob Bavington in place of James and we’re going to discuss the ever increasing possibility of Facebook creating and rivalling Google with a search engine.
Mark Zuckerberg hinted at the thought of creating a platform to compete against Google stating:
We’re basically doing 1 billion queries a day and we’re not even trying… Facebook is pretty uniquely positioned to answer the questions people have. At some point we’ll do it. We have a team working on it.
Facebook already has many of the ingredients needed to satisfy search queries, to start with they have billions of users, they understand their users demographic, their users interests and even their favorite brands.
This means that the results that Facebook display can be extremely targeted and add in some of Google’s personalisation technology and you have an extremely relevant search engine.
Most will say that this is still a pipe dream, but with Google pushing it’s Adwords product more and more users are suggesting that Google’s results aren’t what they used to be. In fact a recent campaign ran by Microsoft called bing-it-on when comparing Google results to Bing in a blind test, people prefer the Bing results 2:1.
So what do you think? we’d love to hear your thoughts on this, could Facebook replace Google as the biggest search provider in the world?
Please leave you questions and comments on the supporting blog post.
