Video Killed The SEO Star
You heard it here first people, video is predicted to be the new big thing in SEO! Ok so you may already be aware of this, however it is still big news, and not to be ignored!!
Its becoming apparent that Google loves video. Youtube videos are popping up left right and centre in the SERPs, meaning that SEO’s can no longer the importance of this somewhat overlooked medium.
This is an unsurprising revelation in the ever changing world of online marketing, as not only is YouTube the second biggest search engine (that’s right!). Also Google own YouTube, therefore why on earth would they not want users to divert to another one of their sites?
But what does all of this mean for an SEO stratergy? I know its hard to comprehend how videos can help the average Plumber or Window Cleaner, however here are some handy hints on how and why video can engage your users and entice
1. Build your brand not links.
If what the likes of SEO Moz and fellow SEO wiz kids have predicted is true, videos are soon to become even more popular than directories, which is a great thing for your brand. Why? Because, unlike a link, your viewers will get to know a little more about your company through the power of the small screen.
2. Link baiting
At present, links are not completely redundant from an SEO campaign. It does seem that the industry is headed this way, however in the meantime, links can still compliment a great campaign, and videos are a great way to earn them… the natural way! People are 10 times more likely to share a video than a piece of text.
3. It encourages social signals
Social signals showed their true colours in 2012, with business owners realising the true potential of those beautiful little likes and tweets. Realistically, does anyone ever like a building page (maybe) but unlikely.. However a video on the other hand, with a little bit of creativity and sense of humour, has potential to circle the social sites no end.
4. Daily Motion and Pinterest
Don’t forget about these guys. YouTube may be the big player, but with Pintrest’s users exploding from 2000,000 to 20 million in just a year, they are one to watch. The early bird catches the worm as they say..
So there you have it. Its early days for the small screen, but underestimating the power of visual media, may just leave you falling behind your competitors in 2013. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
