Penguin and Panda updates for 2013 – The biggest so far?
After talking at SMX West, Matt Cutts announced that he has been working on even more updates for 2013. Looking into a new Penguin and Panda algorithm and also new link network targets.
Making sure that we didn’t feel safe with the algorithms already released, Matt announced that there will be a large Penguin update in 2013 labelling
it “One of the more talked about Google algorithm updates this year” and “Significant” did not make people sit easy. The last update recorded was the Penguin 3 in October 2012, so it is safe to say that we need to expect a major update that will shake the SEO world.
Matt also announced that there will be a new Panda update released as soon as this Friday 15th March or Monday 18th March.
He also confirmed that Google targeted a link network a couple of weeks ago. He also confirmed that they will go after more in 2013, and are looking to release another update in the next
week or two.
What does this mean for the SEO industry?
There are going to big changes, which will mean that sites that are using black hat techniques and link networks will need to change or run for the hills.
I say bring it on!

Personally, I am really thankful to Google for all the updates. They have actually made the Internet a better place to work for webmasters. Now there are no more shortcuts and no more black hat SEO techniques. It allows for a fair competition.
