Sharing is Caring

Regardless of your industry, knowledge expands by sharing (some might argue this and I might agree because let’s face it the Colonel would not share his recipe no matter what). Many companies fear and feel threatened that if they share their expertise they will potentially lose business. However, the key is to understand the fact that if you successfully display your skills to your ideal audience you will gain their trust and this will bring business.

Give Some to Get Some

Create a knowledge sharing website (or even a section of your website); a place where you are tackling many of common issues faced by your industry. This will get you ranking for many relevant searches and it will generate relevant traffic. What’s more, based on how good you are in your field, this will also help you to generate enquiries.

My Share for Today

Have you ever noticed if the website you are viewing is on a secure protocol or not? Basically, if I cut the jargon what I mean is if the website is starting from http:// or https://. In essence the difference between both is that one is secure and the other one is not (so there is the possibility of your data being accessible to website you are visiting).

All e-commerce websites (and any website that takes online payments) MUST have https:// in front of their web address (this is done by them purchasing a SSL Certificate). The issue is that the browsers nowadays are starting to hide the protocol extension as they believe you don’t need to know this information. What you do need to know is NEVER process payments on websites which does not have https://.

Got your Website on https://?

If you have got a SSL Certificate for your website then what you need to know is that to search engines you are potentially displaying two websites – meaning duplicate content! There are few solutions to this problem which will take care of duplicate content. My suggestion and recommended solution is to implement the following php code. Below code means: if the requested page is coming from port 443 then add this META tag which tell search engines to not index the page:

<?php if ($_SERVER["SERVER_PORT"] == 443) {echo "<meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow">" ;} ?>
