Image Search Adverts

This week we’ll be looking at a lesser widely used type of Adwords advert: the image search ad.

In essence an image search advert is simply the combination of text and an inline image; don’t confuse this with a standard image advert though that can be used on the display network. These adverts only appear on searches within the images page of Google.

As can be seen in my sample image search above for ‘oak flooring’ this ad can be very effective for products where people are likely to search by image.

As you can see from my sample search for oak flooring, this type of ad can be very effective for products that people would be likely to search for oak flooring by image. Also as you can see in the above image the adverts are shown in a prime location on the SERPs.

If you are considering creating image search adverts it is best practice with any new facet of PPC advertising to create a specific campaign and ad groups for this. This way any results you gain are true and specific to this method of delivering PPC adverts allowing you to make the best decisions going forward.

To create an image search advert create your new campaign and ad groups and populate your keyword lists then go to the ads tab. Once in the ads tab select the drop down menu of titled new ad and select the option display ad builder. Once this option has being selected you are greeted with the option of image search ad and trueview in search adverts (for youtube). Select image search adverts and then follow the process on the ad builder page.

Now all you have to do is think of something original to write for your ad text and choose a quality picture to be the image aspect. Once all this is complete you can choose your display settings in the settings tab at campaign level.
