New Google In Page Analytics to measure Internet Marketing
Google Analytics has a new and improved feature which has replaced the site overlay. It is called In- Page Analytics. This new version is set to improve the way we can analyse visitor behaviour which can help with our Internet marketing.
This new improved section of GA gives more in depth analysis on which parts of a web page get clicked on and what percentage of clicks occur on each of these links. It essentially lets you know how visitors navigate your web pages.
In addition to this you also are provided with information on visits and other technical information in a compact side column view giving info such as pages viewed, source that they came from, primary language, territory of visitors and information of the technical side of things such as what sort of browser and screen resolution for example.
This new feature is still in its beta version so is expected to have further improvements made. It does still have the problem that the site overlay had where if there are two links to the same url it doesn’t differentiate between the two it totals them up as the same amount of clicks. Hopefully this will be looked at by Google as this is the main flaw of site overlay and its a shame that this hasn’t been fixed.
A nice new feature is that as you scroll down your site a cross bar is present over the web page which tells you how many of your links were clicked below that particular point. This will help you to see if people scroll down to the bottom of your site which can give you an indication of how engaging your content is to the visitor.
Another interesting feature of the In Page Analytics is that you can add filters to this. An example of this is to filter by keyword which in terms of SEO could help you to see if the keywords optimised on that particular landing page were delivering content that was expected by the visitor. You could see how many people went to the contact page for example following this keyword path to see the success of your seo campaign.
This tool by Google may still need some additional improvements before it provides data that is solid and clear but these changes from the site overlay are certainly a step in the right direction. The additional data it provides does give us more of an idea of visitor behaviour and from this we can make certain judgements to improve our Internet marketing campaigns.
