YouTube Does the Harlem Shake (And Other Google Easter Eggs)
Not content with being home to more Harlem Shake videos than you can, well, shake a random object at, YouTube have now jumped on the bandwagon with their own version. Simply type “Do the Harlem Shake” into the search bar, but instead of clicking on one of the results, just wait and see what happens. And if you don’t have YouTube handy, here’s a preview;
YouTube’s version of the Harlem Shake is the latest in a long line of Google Easter eggs – those hidden messages and inside jokes that
are concealed within little corners of the search engine just waiting to be discovered. To save you going on your own Easter egg hunt, here are a few of my favourites:
Directions for Hobbits
Open up Google Maps and search for walking directions from The Shire to Mordor. If you’re a Lord of the Rings Fan, you’ll be familiar with the advice that Google offer;
Search, Rock & Roll
This is probably one of the best-known Easter eggs. Type “Do a barrel roll” into Google and watch as things get twisted;
Google Search, or Reach Ego Logs
If you’ve been searching Google for anagrams for the pub quiz, you might have already spotted this one;
One for the Sci-Fi Fans
Ask Google “The answer to life the universe and everything”, and
it will present you with the result from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy;
An Extra Helping Hand from Gmail
In the part of Gmail where users can suggest improvements and new features for the service, this helpful addition appears at the bottom of the list;
You never know what you’ll find when wandering through the Google universe, so if you have spotted any Easter eggs out there, pop them in the comments below, or alternatively give us a Tweet @creareseo.
